A Time for Love

Welcome to Day 7 of promoting my next release - Time for Love. I’ve been working on this collection for about four years. The romantic collection has twenty short stories - ten about how a couple got engaged and ten about how a couple met. The story I’m going to talk about today is A Time for Love, a short story taking place in September 1997.
Murphy is a college senior who arranged her schedule so she’d have plenty of time to visit her boyfriend. Eric is her private detective boyfriend who lives in Nashville. When he leaves a message for her that indicates he’s in trouble, she drops everything to figure out what happened to him. How does she find him? You’ll have to read the 1st story in the collection to find out.
How does this story relate to other stories in the gagengirl universe?
Eric and Murphy appear in four of my stories, originally created for a short story collection I started in high school. (I actually wrote the first draft of this story senior year.) They also appear in my murder mystery musical and another story in this collection.
Eric’s younger brother is Mad Dog Chronicles’ Drew Donnelly.
Murphy’s nephew Ryan has a brief appearance near the end of Crazy Dreams, after marrying Cecile Madden.
What can you share about Murphy?
Murphy Lynn Montgomery was my first character named Murphy. I named her after Murphy Brown. In my murder mystery musical, she figures out who the killer is. But this story takes place about 11 years before the murder mystery. So you do not need to know anything about it.
And what can you share about Eric?
Eric gave up his marine biology career and living in Hawaii to move back to Chicago and then to Nashville. He did all of that to be with Murphy. Needing to find a new career, he became a private detective.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about this story?
It’s a romance, the story of how Murphy and Eric got engaged. This has the first proposal scene I ever wrote. The story itself was completely rewritten, but the proposal scene is the same.
The story is also where the title of the collection came from.
